Top places to visit in Iceland
BlogThe Blue Lagoon
The Blue Lagoon is an experience that should not be missed during your Iceland holiday. With rugged mountains as its backdrop, this geothermal spa is famous for its mineral-rich water and a great spot for some relaxation. Renowned for its therapeutic properties, and with a constant temperature of 38-40 degrees Celsius, the lagoon offers the ideal conditions to sit back and indulge in some pampering. Visitors can float, enjoy a face mask made of silica mud, and unwind in saunas and steam baths. For those seeking a more exclusive experience, we recommend heading to the Secret Lagoon, one of Iceland’s oldest natural hot springs!
Seljalandsfoss
Iceland is home to many waterfalls, but Seljalandsfoss, located between Reykjavik and Vik, is arguably the most picturesque. What sets this waterfall apart is its unique structure that allows visitors to walk behind the water, offering a different perspective. If you’re travelling during the winter months you may find the waterfalls are frozen, a moment captured in glittering icy sheets. Afterwards, we recommend a leisurely stroll through the Skóga area to immerse yourself in the stunning scenery even further.
The Northern Lights
No trip to Iceland is complete without seeking a peek at the Northern Lights. On a holiday with us, you will join a small group on a boat excursion from Reykjavik. Cosied up in warm clothing you’ll head out after dark to hopefully experience the Northern Lights under the night sky. Of course, we can’t guarantee a sighting but the chances are highest between September and April.
The Golden Circle
A must-see highlight in Iceland is the Golden Circle, home to the highest spouting geysers, spectacular waterfalls, and miles and miles of stunning landscapes. We advise staying overnight so you can experience the top sights with fewer people around. You’ll be able to visit the geysers in the evening when the day visitors have left, taking them in from the best vantage points and wake up early to see Gullfoss Falls without the crowds.
The Westman Islands
Escape the well-trodden tourist path and explore the volcanic Westman Islands, just half an hour by ferry from Landeyjahöfn. Spend your time here exploring the untamed landscape – climb Eldfell volcano, enjoy picturesque walks and keep your eyes peeled for puffins. On your ferry journey back spot a glimpse of the Eyjafjallajökull volcano in the distance.
Whale Spotting in Northern Iceland
Whether visiting Iceland in summer or winter, whale and orca watching is a must! During the summer months you’ll have an increased chance of spotting them, along with dolphins. We recommend staying overnight in Akureyri in our guesthouse accommodation with views across the water. From the fishing village of Husavik, you will set sail for an unforgettable whale-watching experience.
