Days 2-3 – Happy hippies & palm tree beaches

The next few days are free for you to do as you please. You could take a trip to the nearby coastal haven of Matala. In the 1960s, this seaside resort became a beloved sanctuary for free-spirited hippies, who were lured by the allure of the chalk cliffs, with intricate caves that encompass the beach. Using these caves as a place to sleep, many called this beach their home. The old centre of the village is still car-free, so it’s nice and quiet with an array of souvenir shops, cosy bars and a wide choice of restaurants, all adding to the unique charm of this coastal retreat. It’s also worth the drive to Preveli Beach,a true natural gem that is home to one of Crete’s two remaining primeval palm forests. Walk through the palm grove over rocks, wander amidst rocks, and follow the path along a river that gently merges with the azure sea. A short drive or walk from the beach lies the captivating ruins of Preveli Monastery, offering a panoramic vista of the bay.

Day 4 – Departure from Agia Galini

After indulging in blissful days of relaxation, you may find yourself yearning for a touch of adventure. If so, head to the captivating Lassithi plateau, where a rural escape amidst the mountains awaits.
