Kayaking in Kefalonia
Bite-sized tripDay 1 – Arrival on Kefalonia
The ferry from Lefkada takes you to the island of pastel-coloured houses and turquoise bays, Kefalonia. As you sail into Fiskardo harbour, keep your eyes peeled for Loggerhead sea turtles who are frequent guests in the warm waters around the island. Head to your accommodation in Agia Efimia, a small village located halfway across the island. In the harbour, small boats float on the green-blue water and tavernas are spread along the waters edge. You’ll stay in an apartment with a shared pool, ideal for the kids to cool off!
Day 2 – Sea Kayaking
There’s no better way to explore the turquoise waters of the Ionian Sea than by kayak in our opinion, whether your family are thrillseekers or just want a leisurely paddle. You’ll head out with your guide to explore remote bays and pebble beaches, cruise past caves and the spectacular limestone rock coastline. There will also be time for swimming and snorkelling with lunch provided along the way.
Day 3 – Exploring Kefalonia at your own pace
The rest of your time on Kefalonia is free to do as you wish. Immerse yourself in the island’s breathtaking landscapes with a trip into the island’s lush interior, meandering through winding roads amongst green mountains, ancient olive trees, and grazing sheep. Spend time playing on the pebbles of Myrtos Beach, a haven of green cliffs, and blue water or xplore the car-free village of Assos, complete with pastel-coloured mansions and a Venetian castle. If you want to get out on the water again, you can take a boat trip to the enchanting Melissani Lake, partially nestled within a cave, from the town of Sami.
Day 4 – Departure from Kefalonia
Today it’s time to bid farewell to Kefalonia. If you want to combine it with other islands nearby why not make it an Ionian island hopping adventure with stays on Lefkada and Zakynthos? The island has four different ports from which regular ferries sail to the other Ionian islands.
