The Canal and Cobblestones of Panama City

Bite-sized trip
  • Itinerary:
    Panama City
  • Duration:
    3 days / 2 nights (flexible)
  • Price:
From £ 420.- per person (excluding flights)
Panama is a city of extremes: from jungle to skyscrapers, stroll through the colourful colonial Casco Viejo with ancient churches, squares and narrow streets and listen to the salsa music through the windows of the many multicultural restaurants. On this Panama City tour, you'll visit the famous Panama Canal and the fascinating canal museum with an English speaking guide. Watch out for the huge cargo and cruise ships manoeuvring their way through the narrow locks, it’s an impressive sight.

Day 1 – Arrival in Panama City

On arrival in Panama City you will be greeted in the hall by a representative of our local partner. They’ll be carrying a sign with your name on it and transfer you directly to your comfortable, modern hotel in the Obarrio district (or you could upgrade to a colonial-style hotel in the heart of the old town, Casco Viejo). You’ll spend two nights here and get well acquainted with the Panamanian hospitality. This area can be a bit noisy at times but you’ll be in close proximity to bars and restaurants.

Days 2-3 – Guided tour & departure

After breakfast an English speaking guide will take you through the historic district of Casco Viejo. Walk between restored colonial buildings, churches, squares, monuments and museums; it’s a great way to learn more about life in Panama. Whilst you’re here, you won’t want to miss the ‘eighth wonder of the world’, the famous Panama Canal.

There was once a lake between the Pacific and Atlantic oceans but, with a height difference of 16.5 metres, this needed to be bridged so that the ships could sail from one ocean to the other. You can learn all about how and why the canal was built at the visitor’s museum. If you’re lucky, you might see one of the huge freight ships passing through.

After breakfast on day 3 this trip comes to an end and you can continue your adventure from here.
