Get up close to this mammoth volcano and try to spot the molten lava inside as you stand at the crater rim. During your time in Managua we'll organise an afternoon trip to Masaya Volcano for the best chance to see the red lava and orange glow emitting from the volcano. You'll hopefully also see the green "Chocoyos" (Parakeets) and bats as the sun goes down in the late afternoon. Afterwards you'll spend the night in a small hotel nearby.

Days 1-2 – Afternoon volcano tour & departure

Managua may not be the prettiest of cities, but it’s worth stopping a while to take in the impressive site of Masaya Volcano. In the afternoon you’ll be collected from your hotel and, with a small group of other travellers, taken to the Masaya Volcano National Park where this volcano tour will begin. You’ll hopefully see the green “Chocoyos” (Parakeets) returning to their nests in the crater and huge amounts of bats leaving their caves.

The exact tour depends on the level of volcanic activity, so your guide will talk it all through with you at the start. You’ll then return to the city where you’ll spend the night in a small, centrally located hotel with a swimming pool. Managua airport is only around 30mins from your hotel, but during heavy traffic it might take you about an hour. Either way, we’ll make sure you get there in plenty of time to catch your international flight home.
