At Home with the Nicos
Bite-sized tripDay 1 – Arrival at your homestay
You’ll journey with an English speaking guide to a small community in the San Ramon region, about 1 hour from Matagalpa. This untouched area is surrounded by lush vegetation and of course, plenty of coffee. The local people have set up a successful community project in the area where local families open their homes to tourists, helping to supplement their income and inject some funds into this remote area.
On arrival you’ll be greeter by your host family. The family will show you around their home including your room for the night. Most families in this region don’t speak much English, so your guide will come in useful to translate. In the evening, it’s time for a hands-on experience as you help the family cook the evening meal. You can expect to eat traditional foods such as tortillas, but don’t expect to be able to sit back and relax while they do all the hard work! You’ll be doing most of the work yourself.
Day 2 – Departure
Depending on your time of departure you could go on a hike through the rolling green countryside or between November and February you might have the chance to pick and sort coffee. Before you know it though, it’s time to wave goodbye to your hosts and head onwards to your next destination.
