We specialise in carefully sourced, small-scale accommodations rich in local character— steering clear of large chain hotels in favour of warmth and personality. In Costa Rica you’ll stay in small-scale authentic accommodation that truly reflects the culture and nature of your surroundings. It could be a basic lodge in the village of an indigenous community, a Caribbean themed hotel on the east coast or traditional hacienda just outside a national park.

We work with a variety of properties in every area, all personally inspected by us to ensure they meet our standards for comfort, charm, location, and amenities. This approach gives us the freedom to find the ideal place for you, enhances availability during peak seasons, and lets us tailor your experience to match your preferences. Since hotels in Costa Rica don’t always align with European star ratings, we’ve developed our own categories to give you a clear idea of what to expect during your stay.
Here’s what to expect from your Rickshaw accommodation:
Most of our accommodations in South Africa fall into our standard category. In this category (category 3) you can expect a mid-range hotel or guest house with bags of local character and private en-suite bathrooms. It could be a jungle lodge in the heart of Tortuguero, a cosy Hacienda or a hotel full of Caribbean charm.
In-Style accommodation - Category 4
Our In Style options will give you a little extra something during your stay. It could be more facilities, some extra comfort or a completely unique view of your surroundings. You might stay in a boutique eco-hotel on the Caribbean coast, a lodge overlooking a volcano or a comfy beach resort with a huge swimming pool.
Special stays
In some destinations, we’ve found places that add an extra touch of something special. This doesn’t always mean more luxury, but it does mean a unique ambiance and vibe. Think of iconic hotels rich in history or Costa Rica, just let your Travel Specialist know.
Simple accommodation - Category 2 (or 1)
In some parts of Costa Rica there just aren’t as many options, or accommodation isn’t as important as what you’ll experience when you step out of your front door. Our simple accommodation category offers you modest, yet comfortable accommodation with your own room and facilities. These hotels and guest houses generally have an authentic rustic atmosphere and/or are situated in a particularly good location.
