  • Itinerary:
    Boca Tapada
  • Duration:
    3 days / 2 nights (flexible)
  • Price:

Take your family away from the usual tourist trail, and into the untouched nature of northern Costa Rica. You’ll stay in a small-scale, locally run lodge surrounded by jungle, and you might even be able to spend the night in one of their treehouse rooms – every kid’s dream, right? Head out on nature walks, dip in the pool or jump into a canoe, there’s loads here to keep everyone entertained.

Day 1 – Arrival in Boca Tapada

Situated on the San Carlos river, not far from Nicaragua, the drive to Boca Tapada has lots of beautiful sights. The final hour is along a bumpy rural road through the trees, before you park up and cross a river by boat to the lodge – a hotchpotch of bungalows and treehouses dotted amongst the forest. The staff are super-friendly and you’ll get a welcome drink before you get settled in and can cool off in the swimming pool.

*The treehouse rooms are pretty popular, so have a chat with your travel specialist about the possibility of a night or two sleeping in the canopy.

Day 2 – Exploring nature

This morning you’ll wake up when the jungle does, the birds and howler monkeys will see to that! All your meals are included so you don’t have to worry about a thing. After breakfast you’ll head out on a jungle trek with a local guide, who’ll help you spot all those creatures on the kids’ checklist – the area is home to toucans, monkeys, frogs, coatis and lots of birds (It’s a fairly gentle trek, and only about 2 hours, so it’s fine for children with a sense of adventure).

After lunch back at the lodge, the rest of the day is free to do as you choose. You can relax by the pool and explore the grounds, borrow a kayak to go out on the lake, or book another tour with the lodge – they offer things like boat trips, horseriding, bird tours and even a really cool night walk where you can see the critters which hide during the daytime.

Day 3 – Continue your journey

This morning it’s time to say goodbye to this little slice of paradise and carry on to the next stop on your Costa Rican adventure.

Of course, if this sounds like heaven and you’d like to spend a little longer here then just let us know!
