Where the Jungle meets the Sea
Bite-sized tripDay 1 – Welcome to Tayrona National Park
Today you’ll travel to Tayrona National Park, where you’ll spend the next few days. Here, surrounded by lush nature and very close to the park itself, is your rustic eco-lodge. With simple but comfortable rooms, an inviting swimming pool and a small restaurant on site it’s a great place to stay. Hot water is a rare luxury here, but it’s hardly a downside in the hot tropical climate. Swing in a hammock to the sound of birds chirping, take in the views and feel at peace in this untouched land far from the crowds.
Don’t forget to stock up on cash before you leave Santa Marta. There are no ATMs in the area and card are rarely accepted.
Day 2 – Exploring the Tayrona National Park
This morning you’ll head to Tayrona National Park, one of the highlights of Colombia, where the tropical rainforest reaches right up to the Caribbean waves. The water is clear, the sand soft so feel free to find a perfect spot under a palm tree and relax. If you prefer a hike, trails are well marked, start at the Zaino entrance and head to La Piscina and on to San Juan del Cabo passing different bays; you’ll walk through the lush jungle emerging at spectacular beaches along the way. Ask your lodge to get your taxi arranged to and from the park and don’t forget to take a passport copy with you – it might get checked at the entrance.
Day 3 – Farewell to Tayrona National Park
Enjoy another Caribbean breakfast this morning before continuing your journey. If this is your last stop, we will organise an airport transfer for you or let the adventure continue and head to Ciudad Perdida (an archaeological site that predates Machu Pichu), green hilly village of Minca or buzzing Cartagena.
