Colombia Amazon boat trip

Day 1 – Your Amazon adventure begins

Today your driver will transfer you to the airport where you’ll catch your flight to Leticia, Colombia’s southernmost city and the gateway to the Amazon. Bordering both Brazil and Peru (and divided between Colombia and Brazil – cross a road, and you’re in another country!), Leticia is hundreds of miles away from another big settlement, or even a highway. The main attraction here is, of course, the mighty river that carries her waters down the border and into Brazil, and the pristine rainforest surrounding it. Upon arrival, you will be met by your guide and, together with the other travellers, transferred to your lodge by boat. The next few days you will be exploring surrounding jungle, spotting the rainforest inhabitants, meeting local tribes and taking in the incredible views of this untouched land.

Please note: activities may vary depending on the weather, but do not worry – you will have your days packed with adventures

Days 2 – 3 – Exploring the Amazon jungle

The next couple of days you’ll explore the rainforest with your English-speaking guide. Enjoy a hearty breakfast, pack a daypack and set off on a real adventure. You’ll go hiking through the forest, where your guide will help you spot many species of wildlife that reside here. You’ll learn about the rainforest and the plants that grow there; some have medicinal properties, and some are used by the indigenous people to build their houses. You’ll visit one of the local sanctuaries and wildlife rehabilitation centres where the animals, rescued from the illegal trafficking, are being treated and released back into the wild.

You’ll get to meet local people and learn about the indigenous tribes and their way of life by the Amazon; try various exotic fruit that can only be found in this area; hop on a canoe and glide down the river in search of pink dolphins and marvel at birds of paradise flying over the blackwater lake. You will even experience the rainforest after dark, as you go on a night hike, with its many creatures that only come out after the sunset.

Day 4 – Farewell to the Amazon and Leticia

Today your adventure in the Amazon comes to an end. Soon after breakfast it will be time to leave your lodge. Together with your guide, you’ll hop on a boat and travel all the way back to Leticia to catch your flight to the next exciting destination.
