Sandwiched between the Caribbean Sea and the snow-capped mountains of the Sierra Nevada, the laid-back beach village of Palomino has slowly developed into a popular stop-off for travellers who make it as far as Colombia’s north-east coast. It’s easy to see why, with a dreamy location and just enough good places to stay, eat and drink to keep you blissfully satisfied for a few days.

Day 1 – Arrival in Palomino

You’ll probably only need to travel a couple of hours today from nearby Santa Marta, or perhaps via the wonderful Tayrona National Park (let us know if you’d like us to arrange a day here for you along the way). Palomino doesn’t seem like much as you drive along the main road, but as you turn into the little sandy roads which lead to the beach, you’ll start to feel that Caribbean holiday vibe pretty quickly. The village itself has become a little ramshackle haven for travellers, with some good places to eat, drink and maybe have a dance too. You’ll stay just 10 minutes walk away from the centre, in a small-scale resort overlooking the beach.

Days 2-3 – It’s up to you

We’ll leave these days open for you to be as lazy or adventurous as you like. Lie on the white sand, watch the palm trees sway overhead, and maybe pop into the village when you get a little hungry. If you do get restless, you can go tubing down the jungle-flanked Palomino river, ride along the beach on horseback or you could try your hand at surfing. You can also eat some of the best fish and seafood in Colombia here, if this ‘activity’ is more up your street!

Day 4 – Transfer back to Santa Marta

You can spend longer than three nights here of course, but otherwise it’ll be time to pack your bags and wave goodbye to little Palomino. We’ll arrange a private transfer directly back to Santa Marta, from where you can continue your journey by land or air.
