Day 1 – Arrival in Huntsville

Leave the bustle of the big cities well behind and immerse yourself in the tranquillity of the Canadian wilderness. You’ll drive past thick green forests and small picturesque towns, some with local markets ideal for a little break to pick up fresh strawberries, maple syrup and other local delicacies. You’ll arrive in Huntsville, located just outside Algonquin and stay in a small bed and breakfast style lodge.

Day 2 – Explore Algonquin Park

Today you’ll wake up bright and early and tuck into a hearty home-cooked Canadian lumberjack breakfast before heading out to explore Algonquin Park. On arrival, you can stop off at the visitor centre where you can learn more about the park’s wildlife, history and geology as well as find out where the park ranger has spotted wildlife that day! Once inside the park, you are spoiled for choice. With over 20 well-signposted trails of varying lengths and difficulty levels – one moderate trail, known as the ‘Mizzy Lake’ is a beautiful path that leads through forests, lakes and gives you an excellent chance to see some of the diverse wildlife in the park.

If you want a bigger challenge, you can take the ‘Booth’s Rock’ trail which follows an abandoned railway for breath-taking views of the sweeping lakes and forests. For those of you who want to explore the park the ‘Canadian way’, you should take the time for a tour by canoe or kayak. Your hosts at the bed and breakfast will gladly organise a guided 3-hour canoe tour, who will show you the most scenic lakes in the park. If you’d rather paddle around by yourself, there are places where you can rent a canoe and explore at your own pace.

Day 3 – Departure

After another breakfast with your hosts it’s time to say goodbye to the wilderness for your next stop on your adventure. Head east and in the afternoon you’ll reach the city of Ottawa, full of English charm, or drive two hours further to historic Montreal.
