Best time to visit Cambodia
Weather and climateDespite having two seasons, it’s actually possible to visit Cambodia at any time of year. However, if you’re looking for the best time to go then the dry season, which runs from October-May, is ideal. The rainy season runs from the end of May through to the first half of October, but even this is still a great time to go! Though wet, the scenery is deep green and the waterfalls and rivers are at their most spectacular.
Travelling in the rainy season
Cambodia has a south-western monsoon which causes heavy rains almost daily from the end of May to October. But don’t let the wet weather put a dampener on your plans! The rain at this time only tends to fall during the late afternoon or evening, and it doesn’t usually last too long. Unlike the UK where it can drizzle all day, the rain in Cambodia is usually short and sharp, leading to short windows of beautiful skies with dark ominous clouds and amazing thunder and lightning displays.
Sunny beach breaks in Cambodia
You might not think of Cambodia as your typical beach destination, but in fact there are plenty of truly tropical spots and escapes to castaway islands just waiting to be explored. Naturally you’ll want to avoid the rain and enjoy sun-drenched days by the sea. So if you’re trying to decide when to travel to Cambodia’s beaches, we recommend visiting during the dry season which lasts between October to May. April and May are especially pleasant for beach visits as temperatures can reach a scorching 40 degrees Celsius.
