Cambodia’s capital is a city full of life and contrasts, and an eye-opening place for kids to experience. Known as the ‘Pearl of Asia’, it has a youthful energy, wonderful food and unique architecture. It was also at the centre of the darkest days in the country’s history, but today represents something altogether more hopeful. Spend a couple of nights taking in the sights and sounds of the city, before you set off on your Cambodian adventure.

Day 1 – Arrival in Phnom Penh

Whether you’re arriving by air or by bus from a neighbouring country, we’ll arrange for you to be met by a local driver who’ll take you to your hotel – a cosy, family-friendly place with a small swimming pool, located in Phnom Penh’s historic centre. Depending on your arrival time you can set out to explore some of the city yourselves…..it may seem hectic, but it’s generally regarded as a safe city to walk around, especially in the centre.

Day 2 – Exploring the city

This morning you’ll meet a local guide, who’ll be taking you on a tour to show you the present and past of their city. As well as getting a feel for vibrant, modern-day Phnom Penh, you’ll also take a sobering look into its tragic past with a visit to the Tuol Sleng museum and the infamous Killing Fields site.

We think this is an important education for most people to take in, but obviously you might consider your children too young or not ready to see these things. If that’s the case then we can arrange some great alternatives – check out the cycling trip we have below or let your Travel Specialist know if you’d prefer something else!

You’ll visit rural communities, cycle past farmland and learn how to weave silk the Khmer way! The absence of most four wheeled traffic makes for a peaceful ride where you can almost forget that the bustle of the capital city is nearby. The ride is flat and a slow pace, making it a great family experience during your time in Phnom Penh.
