Curitiba and a scenic train ride

Day 1 – Arrival in Curitiba
Curitiba is one of the greenest and cleanest cities in Brazil, and is regarded as offering residents the best quality of life in the country. You’ll probably be arriving into Curitiba on a domestic flight and you’ll be met at the airport and transferred to your downtown hotel. It’s within walking distance of the train station and there are plenty of restaurants, bars and shops nearby. If you have time you may wish to take a stroll through the historic centre.
Day 2 – Scenic train to Morretes
Today you’ll jump on the train from Curitiba to Morretes. This journey – aboard the famous Serra Verde Express – is considered to be one of the most beautiful train journeys in the world. Opened in 1885, the single-track 70km line was a great challenge for engineers at the time. The railway winds through the majestic Serra do Mar mountain range, passing through tunnels and across soaring viaducts. From the train you can enjoy uninterrupted views of deep tropical forest, mountain slopes and cascading waterfalls. After around 3.5 hours you’ll reach your destination – Morretes. There will be time to potter around this well preserved colonial town, and take lunch in one of the riverside restaurants if you wish, before returning to Curitiba by car.
Day 3 – Depart Curitiba
It’s time to continue your journey. Typically we’d recommend taking the bus to São Paulo. It’s a comfortable 6 hour trip, with plenty of legroom, luggage space, and air conditioning. São Paulo is Brazil’s largest city and is an excellent transport hub from where you can travel all over Brazil, or head home if this is the end of your holiday.
