Snorkelling on Dolphin Island
Bite-sized tripDay 1 – Arrival at Fernando de Noronha
After an hour or so up in the air your flight will land on the paradise island of Fernando de Noronha. You can travel here from Natal or Recife making it easily accessible from the east coast. In 1988 Fernando de Noronha became part of Brazil National Marine Park. Since then, only 100 tourists are allowed to enter the marine park each day to preserve the environment. This not only guarantees the protection of the natural habitat, it also ensures that those who do visit the area find clean beaches and unspoiled nature waiting for them. Don’t expect to find luxury on this island; it’s quite a rustic remote paradise. Upon your arrival, a transfer will be waiting to take you to your accommodation – a simple, but charming pousada.
Days 2-3 – Boat trip & free time
There is more to Fernando than beautiful beaches. Walking trails on the island offer a variety of interesting scenery. If you hike to the top of Morro do Pico you’ll have the best possible view of the archipelago’s 21 islands. Most travellers visit the island to explore the sea and the incredible underwater world. Coral reefs and ship wrecks surrounding the island are inhabited by dolphins, sharks, stingrays, barracudas, sea turtles, moray eels and all types of tropical fish.
We have included a half day boat trip during your stay, that visits Dolphin Bay. With a little luck you may even spot a few spinner dolphins while you’re here; there are more of them in this area than anywhere else in the world. Snorkelling equipment is available to hire as you board the boat. If you would prefer to try an introductory dive, let us know and we can arrange this for you.
Day 4 – Fernando – Recife/ Natal
Today it’s time to leave Fernando de Noronha and head back to the mainland. Flights back to Recife and Natal generally leave in the afternoon, so you’ll have the morning to yourself. Eventually though, the time will come to say goodbye to this little piece of heaven on earth. Before travelling on with one of the other Brazil tours or returning home, you’ll need to spend a night in Recife or Natal.
If you have more time to spare, we’d definitely recommend staying longer on Fernando de Noronha. Just ask your Travel Specialist.
