Bite-sized trip
  • Itinerary:
Salvador de Bahia - Ilha de Boipeba - Salvador de Bahia
  • Duration:
    4 days / 3 nights (flexible)
  • Price:
From £ 489.- per person (excluding flights)
Remote, relaxed and full of Bahian charm, Ilha de Boipeba is a little island paradise where you can forget all about the real world. Getting here isn’t simple, but maybe that’s a good thing. It’s certainly worth the effort once you’re lying back in a hammock, caipirinha in hand, with your only worry being what type of fresh seafood you want for lunch! With untouched beaches, sandy car-free roads, and a very much no-shoes policy, you may find it hard to leave.

Day 1 – Salvador to Boipeba

The only tricky thing about Boipeba is getting there. First, you’ll be collected from your hotel in the morning by a private taxi, and taken to the ferry terminal to board a boat over to Mar Grande. Once here, you’ll hop on a bus to take you down the coast to the little fishing town of Valença, and to another ferry port. Next you’ll get on a motorboat to take you over to Ilha de Boipeba. Easy! The journey will usually take around 4-5 hours in total, and we’ll arrange for you to be met at the port so you can find your pousada easily, and settle in for a well-deserved drink.

Days 2-3 – Busy doing nothing….

Your locally run pousada is set amongst lush tropical gardens, just a couple of minutes from the beach and 10 minute stroll to the island’s main town, where you’ll find some lively little bars and restaurants. Your time in Boipeba is completely free, so if you’re feeling lazy and decide to spend your whole day in a hammock then we won’t judge! If you’re feeling a little more energetic then there are some lovely hiking trails through the forest, or along the coast where you’ll find the occasional lobster shack for a lunch stop.

The water here is warm and clear. You can easily rent snorkels if you fancy exploring underwater, and canoes are also available so you can paddle through the mangrove forests. Life here moves at a snail’s pace, and the people who live here are known for being friendly and happy. By the end of your stay we’re sure you’ll agree that they have plenty to be happy about.

Day 4 – Boipeba to Salvador

With a heavy heart, it’s time to leave Boipeba behind and begin your journey back to Salvador. After making your way to the ferry port you’ll travel the same route that brought you here – boat, bus, boat, taxi – and you’ll arrive back in lively Salvador in the afternoon. Unless you’re in a hurry, we’d usually recommend booking an extra night in the city, before continuing your journey or catching your flight home.
