During this bite-sized Borneo trip you'll explore the raw, untamed jungle of tropical Borneo, as you head to the Tabin National Park. You'll say goodbye to civilisation as you travel by 4x4 deeper and deeper into the wilderness, along uneven, gravelly jungle roads. You'll be staying in a remote lodge, and will set out by jeep and on foot to see monkeys, bats, monitor lizards and tropical birds in a rainbow of colours, amongst a variety of other creatures. If you're lucky you might even catch a glimpse of an elephant or an orangutan during your Borneo jungle trek, so keep your eyes peeled.

Day 1 – Lahad Datu – Tabin National Park

You’ll be picked up from the airport in Lahad Datu, ready for a 2-hour journey into the jungle by 4×4. Your driver will tell you a little about Tabin National Park, before dropping you off at your unique accommodation. The jungle bungalows here are equipped with air conditioning and hot running water, and once you’ve checked in, you can sit back on your balcony and let the sights and sounds sink in. After a bite to eat your adventure will really begin as you head off on your afternoon jeep safari through the jungle.

As you drive along, you and a few other adventurers will try to spot elephants, orangutans and macaques. Enjoy the view, but keep your camera handy so you can take a picture of that colourful hornbill before it flies away. Eventually the jeep will stop and you’ll get an even closer look at the wilderness surrounding you. Your guide will lead you through dense jungle to a mud volcano where animals gather for their daily dose of minerals. They say that the volcano’s mud is great for your skin, so why not treat yourself to a free facial and lather up?

After a while, the humidity of the forest can make you feel a bit sluggish. Luckily the jeep is just a short walk away and it will whisk you back to your resort for a very welcome and refreshing shower. After dinner it’s time to continue your adventure as you explore the jungle at night. As you walk along surrounded by the glow of fireflies, you’ll be amazed at how quickly your guide can spot even the tiniest of creatures in the pitch black.

Day 2 – Tabin National Park

This morning you’ll wake up to the sound of monkeys and birds, and if you’re up early you can join a morning hike in search of the most colourful species of birds flying around the park. After a tasty breakfast you’ll have time to prepare for part two of your jungle trek. Put on your swimming costume beneath your clothes and get ready to make your way through the forest.

Before long you’ll hear the sound of gushing water getting closer, and before you know it you’ll find yourself at a jungle oasis. The trek back will seem a little more strenuous because of your wet clothes, but once you get to the jeep and feel the wind drying your hair, all will be forgotten. Back at the resort, lunch will be waiting for you and the rest of the afternoon will be free to spend as you wish.

Day 3 – Tabin Wildlife Resort – Lahad Datu

Your Borneo jungle trip finishes today, and you may want to take one last walk by the river and get a few pictures before travelling back along the narrow gravel roads to Lahad Datu to continue your trip in Borneo.
