Gaya Island Family Getaway

Bite-sized trip
  • Itinerary:
Kota Kinabalu - Gaya Island - Kota Kinabalu
  • Duration:
    4 days / 3 nights (flexible)
  • Price:
From £ 479.- per adult (excluding flights)
  • From £ 319 - per child (up to 11 years)
This bite-sized trip is ideal if you'd like to spend a few days relaxing on the beach, and can be added at the beginning, middle or end of your trip. Since Gaya Island is so close to Kota Kinabalu it's very accessible, and perfect if you don't have time to travel to some of Borneo's other islands. You will be staying in contemporary style jungle villas in a comfortable resort. Your days here can be spent as you wish; discover the underwater world on a snorkelling trip, relax at the beach or head to the island jungle where you can enjoy nature walks.

Day 1 – Kota Kinabalu – Gaya Island

Today you’ll travel to Pulau Gaya, a small island located near Kota Kinabalu. From the airport or hotel you’ll travel to the port and take a 15 minute speedboat to Gaya.

Your hotel is on the edge of the jungle, directly on the beach. It’s the perfect setup for some family fun! Grab a good book and find a nice spot to enjoy the tranquillity of this tropical island, while the kids splash about in the water.

Days 2- 3 – Free time on Gaya Island

For the next couple of days, we’ve left your schedule wide open, giving you the perfect opportunity to cherish some precious family moments together. Nearby is a vibrant coral reef to explore through snorkelling or diving adventures arranged with the local dive centre. You can also visit the neighbouring islands of the Marine Park, taking in the beauty of the seascape from the comfort of a boat. Fancy a bit of exploration? Rent a kayak and discover the island’s hidden gems from the serene waters, or opt for a stomp through the lush jungle canopy.

Day4 – Gaya Island – Kota Kinabalu

Today it’s time to leave Gaya Island behind. As the island is part of the Tunku Abdul Rahman Park you’ll have a 20MYR fee per day (approx. £4) to pay at the hotel reception.

What time you’ll catch the boat back to the mainland totally depends on your onward destination. If you’d like to add another night here then let your Travel Specialist know.
