Explore this UNESCO World Heritage peninsula packed with penguins, seals, dolphins and humpback whales. The Peninsula Valdes is Argentina’s wild side, jutting out over the northern coast of Patagonia. If you’re passionate about wildlife, this is the place for you. Day 1 – Trelew arrival – Puerto Madryn

When you arrive at the airport in Trelew, you’ll take the handy shuttle bus to Puerto Madryn, the base for your Peninsula Valdes tour. Here, you’ll be staying in a comfortable posada around ninety minutes from the Peninsula itself and a 20-minute walk into town.

Day 2 – Puerto Madryn, wildlife tour to Peninsula Valdes

Today, you’ll be collected after breakfast for your trip to the UNESCO World Heritage Peninsula Valdés, located on the Atlantic coast of northern Patagonia. On the way you’ll stop at the visitor centre to learn all about the flora and fauna on the peninsula. When you arrive at Puerto Piramides, the only settlement on the peninsula, you can book a whale watching tour locally (approx. $70).

If there are no whale sightings at Puerto Piramides, you’ll drive on to Punta Delgada to see hundreds of sea lions basking in the sun. Next, you’ll swing by the elephant seal colonies with their odd trunk-like noses. This is also the spot where killer whales occasionally swim right up to the shore to grab young seal pups. On the way back, you’ll visit a penguin colony and then, around 7pm, you’ll be dropped back at your posada in Puerto Madryn.

Day 3 – Departure from Peninsula Valdes

After breakfast, you can relax or wander around Puerto Madryn before being transferred to the bus station or Trelew airport to continue your Argentina adventure.
