Winding waterways of Iberá Wetlands
Bite-sized tripDay 1 – Arrival in Ibera Wetlands
Today you will arrive at your charming eco-lodge in Colonia Carlos Pellegrini, at the heart of Iberá Wetlands, after a scenic drive from Iguazu. The journey from Iguazu is an adventure in itself, where you will get a glimpse into the rural landscapes and enjoy scenic views of rolling hills, vast fields and areas of subtropical forest. Your lodge is surrounded by lush landscapes with spacious gardens and there’s a restaurant serving homemade regional meals and a swimming pool. Head out on an evening nature walk and explore the diverse ecosystem this region is known for. The wetlands are the second largest in the world and home to a huge range of wildlife including capybara, caimans, giant otters, marsh deer and over 350 bird species.
Days 2-3 – Exploring the wetlands
Over the next few days, you can immerse yourself in the incredible natural beauty of the wetlands and get involved in a number of different activities arranged by your lodge. Board a boat and head out across the lagoons, spotting capybaras, caimans and various birds; discover the unique flora and fauna of the wetlands on a guided nature walk or experience the wetlands the traditional way – on horse-back, accompanied by a local guide. You can also join a night safari to see the wetlands come alive at night when many animals are most active. Or take part in local traditions such as a traditional asado (Argentine barbeque) or folk music evening. There is so much to do here, you’ll be spoilt for choice!
Day 4 – Departure from Iberá Wetlands
Your trip ends after breakfast this morning, when you’ll be transferred to Posadas where you can continue your adventure in Argentina. You could experience the gaucho life on a working ranch in Salta and ride horseback through tobacco plantations, surrounded by mountains.
