Life on Lake Ohrid
Bite-sized tripDay 1 – Welcome to Lin
Today you’ll reach Lin, an idyllic fishing village set on the shores of the vast Lake Ohrid. You’ll spot the terracotta-red roofs against the cobalt-blue waters of the lake as you drive towards it. The pace of life is really slow here and it catches on instantly. Lin is the place to unwind, take in the views and watch the world go by. You’ll be staying in one of the charming local guesthouses set right on the banks of the lake. The guesthouse offers kayak rentals, so you can grab one for a couple of hours and glide along the shores in search of a secluded beach. Or, if you much prefer walking on dry land, the famous Byzantine mosaics of Lin’s ancient basilica are well worth having a look at.
Day 2 – Exploring Ohrid
Only a 45-minutes drive separates you from North Macedonia. Today, together with your guide, you’ll dip into a different world (and country!) to discover Ohrid, a peaceful UNESCO lakeside town. You’ll spend a few hours exploring the city and Macedonian culture, see incredible examples of Macedonian architecture and get a glimpse of local life. After that you’ll get back to Lin, on the other side of the lake. After a day full of adventures we’ll arrange a traditional dinner for you at your guesthouse.
Day 3 – Departure from Lin
This morning your lake-side adventure comes to an end. Have one more stroll along the shores, pack your bags and make a move to the next place, whether it’s back to Tirana to catch your flight back, or towards the beautiful Albania’s south.
Accommodation
For this bite-sized trip we offer the following options
Kayak rental
To see Lin from a different angle and the lake from up close, why not get a kayak for a couple of hours and glide across the still water. Explore the hidden beaches and enjoy the beautiful views all around you. Your kayak can be rented from the guesthouse and you’ll have whole 2 hours to use it.
Bike rental
Grab a bike and cycle around Lin, exploring the area at your own pace on 2 wheels. Head out of town to watch the farmers at work in their fields. Ride through the herds of goats on the pastures. Or simply go along the lake shores and spend time on hidden beaches. The locals will help your find your way if you’re lost!
