Today you’ll reach Berat, a beautiful UNESCO World Heritage Site that will easily make it into the top highlights of your trip. This place will instantly charm you with its authentic look and beautiful views, and to enhance your experience, we’ll book you into one of the local hotels built in the traditional Berati style, with plenty of wood and stonework. Located in the Ottoman Mangalemi district, you’ll be surrounded by the famous ottoman houses with countless windows that gave Berat its famous nickname. Explore the town, walk up to the castle hill for the best views, and stroll along the broad boulevards just like the locals do.
Day 2 – Introduction to Albanian cuisine
What better way to learn about country’s traditions than through its local food! Today you’ll get to know Albania from its culinary standpoint, and it will be quite an adventure. With a lot of Italian, Greek and Ottoman influences, Albanian cuisine is rich in flavours and very diverse, with plenty of local delicacies in each region. Berat is no exception and today you’ll meet a local chef at one of the restaurants who will be your guide on this culinary adventure. Under their careful guidance you’ll cook up a feast and learn about the development of the local staple dishes while trying them fresh from the stove. That’s your lunch served!
We’ve left the afternoon free for you to explore Berat at your own pace and do as much or as little as you like: there are plenty of activities we can offer you, from relaxing wine tasting to thrilling rafting!
Day 3 – Departure from Berat

Visit to the vineyard with wine tasting
Albania may not be widely known for its wines nowadays, but the winemaking culture was established here almost 3,000 years ago, making it one of the oldest wine producing regions in the world. Today, with abundance of vineyards, amazing native grapes and country’s economy picking up after the turbulent 20th century, the wine industry is slowly re-establishing again. You have a perfect opportunity to sample some of the local wines on a family-owned vineyard and learn about the wine-making traditions of Albania. Your wine swill be accompanied with some local cheeses and olives, and return transfers mean you won’t need to count the units!
Kayaking trip
About a 40-minute drive from Berat flows river Osum, just the spot for some kayaking. The route takes you through sharp turns of an impressive canyon, with towering cliffs on both sides, past the waterfalls and other natural wonders. Along the way you will get traditional snacks, fruit, coffee and of course some raki to keep you warm.
